How to Style an Oversized Shirt Five Ways

How to Style an Oversized Shirt Five Ways

The oversized shirt is the piece I reach for most. Not because it’s easy — though it is — but because it has a kind of volume and presence that makes everything around it look more considered.
Here’s how I actually wear it.

  1. With tailored trousers
This is my most elevated combination. The trousers are tapered and structured — and that precision actually makes the volume of the shirt work better, not worse. The contrast between the relaxed top and the sharp bottom is the whole point. Kitten heels finish it perfectly, or simple flats if I want to keep it grounded.
  2. With a satin skirt
Less volume at the bottom, more at the top. The softness of the satin and the softness of the poplin speak to each other in a way that feels intentional without trying. I keep shoes simple here — flats or low Converse for an unexpected contrast between the delicate skirt and something more relaxed on my feet.
  3. With barrel jeans
This is my most worn combination. The barrel jean has its own shape and volume so the two pieces balance rather than compete. I either tuck the shirt fully, tuck just the front, or leave it completely loose depending on my mood. All three work. The front tuck is probably my favourite, it gives a waist without being precious about it.
  4.  As an overshirt over a dress
Open, loose, worn over a simple dress. It changes the whole feeling of an outfit without adding complexity. The shirt becomes a layer rather than a statement. This is what I wear when I want to feel put together without feeling dressed up.
  5. As an overshirt with a tank top and denim
The most casual version and honestly the one I wear most at home and on easy days. Tank top, denim, shirt open over the top. It takes thirty seconds and looks like you thought about it. That’s the whole point.

The thing all five have in common is that the shirt never fights for attention. It just makes everything else look better.

The Alice Shirt is available in white, pink, green and black. Made from rescued luxury cotton in small batches. Each colour is limited, when the fabric is gone, it won’t be repeated.
